Converted from 4-8-2T shunters, originally introduced in 1953, with extended bunker and side tanks for trip working. The conversion was done using bogies from old 50 Class Beyer-Garratts which were being withdrawn. This improved the weight distribution and cured them of their habit of derailing in sidings.
Regrettably 1315 was accidentally cut up in 1996 after being shunted onto the wrong siding in the running shed. The boiler was retrieved and is used as a stationary boiler in the workshops.
