These locomotives were ordered by the WD, to a pre-war design, for use in the Far East at the end of the war. Two were delivered to the KUR in 1945. A further 9 were purchased from Burma between 1946 and 1952. They saw extensive use on mixed branch line trains all over the East African system. Classified EC5 they received the numbers 120 - 131, EAR numbers 5501 - 5511. 5505, one of the ex-Burma locomotives, was withdrawn from Mombasa in 1976.
